Chapter 118 – Hateful Moments

“I’m so…so sorry.” Bella went upstairs with her hands covering her mouth.

The handkerchief Roy handed to her hung in the air. Roy turned around and looked in Bella’s direction. His eyes dulled, and he gazed blankly.

What did he do wrong? Why was the Lady so unhappy since she came here to Williams Mansion?

Charles closed his eyes and allowed Katherine to kiss him. In his mind, he saw that Bella ran on the beach. He saw that she turned her head, and then hurriedly run away.

She was close to him, and he was able to sense her.

“Honey,” Katherine finished kissing him and asked timidly, “Bella said that she was afraid of being fined. Have you two signed any agreements?”

“An oral agreement,” Charles replied in a low voice. His voice was still soothing, and that made anyone who heard it comfortable.

Katherine was exhilarated, but she was still somehow worried, “Can we sign a written agreement with her? I am afraid that she would be reluctant to leave after giving birth to the baby. I am terrified of that.” She held him tight, “I am afraid that if I am unable to marry you. I will die. I will, Charles.”

He looked at her weak and helpless expression, Charles’s heart softened, “Don’t talk nonsense. You will not die. I will not let you die.”

“But what if she refuses to leave by then?”

“I will deal with it.”

Katherine smiled through her tears upon hearing that.

Later that evening, Bella went to the kitchen to get some water. As she returned to her room, she saw Charles and immediately ran away. Charles saw her, and he caught her by the arms just after she ran a few steps.

Charles dragged her along as he walked forward.

“What are you doing?” Bella tried to push him away. “It hurts.”

“You should know what you would go through after you disobeyed me.”

Charles did not loosen his hand. He still dragged her until they reached the main bedroom. He kicked the door open and tossed her in.

He was irritated when he found out Bella was with Edwin Beck and that she left the building without letting him know. However, he was unable to vent his anger at the sight of her every time. Just now, she tried to escape when she saw him, which made a fire of rage burn in his heart that could not be extinguished.

She was escaping from him as if he was a terrible monster.

Bella could not catch her balance after she had been thrown into the room. She slammed her wrist into the desk, which made her face wrinkle in pain.

She silently looked at her red, swollen wrist. Then she slowly looked up at the angry man.

If Charles were a king, he would have been a tyrant. He despised everything and did not talk much. When he was irritated, he showed mercy to nothing.

She knew he was angry. She also knew how to get along with him after being with him for the last few months.

Charles wanted everyone to be obedient to him. He would not explain his decisions to anyone, let alone appease anyone's emotions.

She knew that once she changed her attitude and obeyed him, or just played the good woman, his anger would lift and she would suffer less.

But now…

Their kisses in the office; the affection they showed to each other in the dining room; the loving eyes of them on the beach… All those made her no longer able to force a smile to him.

Bella looked at Charles with her bright and stubborn eyes.

His voice was cold, “Bella, why did you run away from me? You haven’t explained it to me.”

“What are you talking about?” She asked.

“Why did you meet Edwin Beck today? Why did you leave the building without letting me know? Why didn’t you come home directly? Why did you run at the sight of me just now?”

Charles asked a series of questions angrily.

“You had fined me, and I didn’t have enough money for my mum’s treatment, so I went to search for part-time jobs online. I didn’t know that Edwin was my customer until I met him today. You were still in the meeting when it was time to get off work. I was unable to let you know then. I didn’t come home after work because I wasn’t sure whether or not you wanted to have me home with Katherine there. So, I waited for your notifications.” Bella replied to his questions one by one seriously. Her eyes were as bright as her heart. The heart that loved him without reservation.

“Waiting for my notifications?” He stared at her sharply, “Why don’t you just say that you are jealous of Katherine, you do not want to see us together?”

What sharp words! How right his analysis was! He saw through her and uncovered her thoughts. Charles seemed to wait to see if she was sad or embarrassed.

“Yes.” Bella admitted calmly, “I am jealous of her. I don’t want to see you two together. I told you on the beach that I would ignore her. Or else, the pain, the jealousy will kill me one day.”

Charles looked at her and found no words to reply. He did not expect that she would have admitted that.

“Is that the reason you repeatedly butt heads with me today?”

“I did not butt heads with you, I just want to ease my pain. I have also told you if you were to fine me because I ignored Katherine, I would respect her as much as I respect you.”

Charles looked at her, “I hope that you respect Katherine, but I would not threaten you.”

“So, you want me to respect her willingly?” Bella burst out laughing, “Don’t you think it is the best respect for her that I ignore her? Or, should I also ignore you? Is that okay? I ignore both of you so that we can live peacefully together ridiculously, until one day you throw me out after I give birth to the baby, or after you find out that I am unable to deliver a baby.”

“Bella don’t be so bold.” Charles looked down at her and became angrier, “You started acting strange the day Katherine came here. Therefore, you had envied her since then. Your jealousy peaked today when you saw us together. Correct?”

“Yes. I envy her.” Bella did her best to hold back her tears, “But why would I envy her? Have you thought of that? It is because I love you. I hate myself for being like that. I hate myself for loving you.”

She was jealous of Katherine. She had no conflicting feelings when she knew that Martin and Lynn were together, but that was because she did not love Martin.

Charles paused for a moment, and his anger gradually disappeared. His head echoed the words she spoke to him, “I love you, I love you…”
