Chapter 109 – Were Things Getting Better?
The boss of the restaurant did not give an instant reply as he did before. Bella waited for a moment and was disappointed that the boss would default on the bill, after a minute she got a message from her bank.
Bella’s eyes widened significantly, “$1,300?”
The boss surprisingly added a thousand dollars.
Bella was about to message him to inquire why when she received a message from him; it was a picture of the finished menu. Her drawing had been duplicated and printed onto the menu. Along with the image the message said; “The menu was exquisite, it has brought many customers to my restaurant. Can you create a poster using the mermaid you drew? I will pay $1,000!”
Bella just finished replying and was about to send it, as another message from him arrived, “$1,500?”
Bella replied to him quickly, “Thank for your interest. Do you need a hand drawing or an electronic version? I could do it on the computer today.”
“$2,000, one on paper and an electronic version. Okay?”
Why not!
Bella could hardly suppress her excitement and texted him instantly, “Okay.”
The man made a deposit of $1,000 quickly, and sent a message on the bank proof, “Waiting for you.”
Fantastic! Fantastic!
She had enough money to pay for her mother’s next month of treatment. Bella was extremely happy; she completely overlooked the ambiguous meaning of the message he had sent.
Now, since Charles was not here, she could draw.
As she had drawn the mermaid before and based it on her own appearance, she could finish a draft quickly.
She did not know why she had been inspired to draw a mermaid. She imagined it as wildly as she could, as it was midsummer, she gave the mermaid a seashell bikini top, and its long wavy hair wore a crown like a princess but tilted slightly. The figure of the mermaid was vigorously cute.
Until the clock struck noon, she was in full concentration with her drawing, she did not notice that most of her colleagues went to lunch. Because she was the wife of the Lord, no one dared to ask her to go with them for lunch.
A shadowy finger pointed at the of the breasts of the mermaid, “Your boobs are not as big as those are.”
Bella was so focused, Dora used to mess around with her while she was drawing before; she did not stop sketching and answered spontaneously, “So! I imagined they were.”
Then she realized something was wrong after a few seconds, she almost sprang from her chair as she found the tall figure that stood before her. She had moved quickly, as her knees struck the desk, she cried out in pain.
Though she didn’t have much experience working in an office, she did know that no boss would like to see their employee doing another job while at work, and her boss was Charles, a mean and perverted man. She endured the pain and said in a shivering voice laced with guilt, “My Lord, when did you get here?”
Charles’s eyes moved from the drawing to her breasts, which were not as big but they were shapely, his cold voice was amused, “You are self-conscious.”
“Yes, I have always been self-conscious.” Bella blushed and grinned falsely to him. She prayed that he would leave soon.
Charles stood there, as his eyes swept her face, “They are not big but very comfortable.”
Bella was not able to understand his words until she caught up with his gaze that was positioned on her chest.
As if a sleeping volcano burst out in an instant, a fire was burned in her head.
Though it seemed to be a compliment which was the first one Charles had given to her, but she was not really flattered.
What should she say to him? …Thank you? Or say, as you like?
His words put her in an utterly awkward position.
She really wanted to slink away as she could not stay there.
As she moved a few steps, Charles’s voice followed up coldly, “Where are you going?”
She blushed and answered, “To go to the washroom.”
Before she got far, his long arms stretched out and picked her up to carry her into the office.
She was stunned when he put her down, he lifted his eyebrows, and said, “You don’t want to use the washroom, do you? Or…” He prolonged his sentence, and leaned towards her, “Do you like my company?”
“No, no, I will go by myself, alone. I don’t want to bother you, my Lord.”
Bella was incoherent, and she did not know what to say.
He was amused by her confusion and smiled in pleasure; it seemed to him that this woman was not so troublesome.
When Bella came out of the washroom, she found Charles had sat down on the sofa and was about to have lunch, she nodded to him, “I must go now. Thank you, my Lord.”
“Come, sit down and eat with me.”
Bella paused, she thought that if she wanted to live a harmonious life with him, and it was better not to offend him, she then went over obediently.
There were plenty of dishes on the table, Bella was surprised, “You went out this morning. Why didn’t you eat?”
Charles lifted his head and glanced at her, “You don’t want to eat with me, do you?”
“I don’t mean that I just, eh…” Bella paused for a moment and looked toward him, her eyes flashed. “So, so it was because you wanted to come back to eat with me?” Bella was surprised and flattered, “You, you hurried back to eat with me…I am so happy.”
Charles just gave her a glance, without saying a word, and then focused on his food.
Bella looked at him with a smile on her face, and her heart was fully content. Though he did not say that he loved her, sometimes actions spoke louder than words. She thought that Charles was beginning to do something for her at last.
Bella finished her meal with a mood full of love.
Charles, as a matter of fact, did come back here to have lunch with her. After the meal, he had an important meeting. Before she left, he told Bella, “You can take a nap in my office.”
Bella shook her head, “No, I don’t need one, I am not tired.”
Charles glanced at her emotionlessly, “You mean I did not tire you out enough last night?”
He pushed her to the side, and sandwiched her between his body and the wall, and leaned over her, “I don’t mind doing more to tire you out.”
Bella put her hands on his chest and pushed him, her face scarlet, “I feel tired, and I am tired. I am sleepy now. My Lord, you don’t need to work at it.”
Had the man known this was a place of business?
Charles curled his lips and lifted his hands to touch her cheeks, and kiss her.
The kiss did not last for long, but it seemed to be something of a ritual, solemn but straightforward. As if a husband gave a goodbye kiss to his wife before he left home, so gentle and sweet. Bella was dazed, the world around her seemed to become quiet in just a moment.
She was sleepy indeed, as they had made love all night, as well as having passionate sex this morning, she fell asleep soon in the lounge area of his office.
After a nap, she went back to her desk and worked on her drawing. Charles didn’t notice this drawing was for a private job.
She felt that their relationship was in harmony, though Charles did not respond to her confession. He was expressionless and overbearing, but his manner to her became gradually gentle, not so cold-blooded and indifferent as before.
And he used to look down his nose at her as if he was superior, but now, she felt like he viewed her as an equal.
Everything seemed to be going well.
At the moment, she had forgotten that Katherine was coming.
Bella’s eyes widened significantly, “$1,300?”
