Chapter 79 - malpractice
Bella was dejected and went to her desk. The phone rang the moment she sat down.
She picked up the phone immediately, “Hello, Williams Group, how may I help you?”
Charles voice sounded, “Come here.”
Then he hung up the phone.
“So impolite,” Bella muttered under her breath.
Though she was reluctant, she had to go meet him. After all, she had something to ask.
She knocked at Charles’s office door and opened it.
She walked toward him and stopped in front of the desk. She forced a smile, and asked, “What can I do for you, my Lord?”
He did not even raise his head and said, “Get me a cup of coffee.”
Bella quickly prepared the coffee and brought it to him, “Brazil specialized coffee without sugar.”
Charles glanced at her and said, “Well, you indeed know my taste.”
Bella was proud. “I have specifically asked my colleagues about that.”
She had asked many things about him. She knew that he liked Brazil specialized coffee without sugar; knew that he took the president's special elevator and did not go with others; knew that his signature pen should be replenished weekly...
The more she knew about him, the fewer mistakes she would make.
Because he was a narrow-minded and hateful man. No matter what the reason was, she was always the one to be punished if something offended him.
Charles took a sip of the coffee and smiled. It seemed that Bella cared about him.
“You can leave now.”
After a while, Charles raised his head and saw that Bella still stood there. He frowned and asked, “Why are you still here?”
Bella’s face was rigid from smiling for so long, but she still forced a smile and asked, “Lord, May I discuss something with you?”
Charles replied before Bella could ask anything, “You don’t want me to deduct your salary for being late?”
Seeing that he did not get angry, she immediately nodded her head, “I know that you are very busy, please do not waste your time on me. I...I will not be late again even if I do not eat breakfast for a month, as long as you do not deduct my salary this time.”
Charles rejected without hesitation, “No.”
Bella did not give up and kept asking, “Then could I do something else to make it up? Such as a massage?”
“I do not need one.”
Bella got worried, “What should I do to make you not deduct my salary? Anything would be OK. I will do it.”
Charles put down the documents and leaned back in the chair and said, “I have thousands of employees here. Everyone is professional. Do you think that I have something that has to be arranged for you?”
Bella was unhappy and said, “No.”
Everyone was professional except her.
“Ok, then I will not disturb you.”
She could not let one penny of her mother’s treatment fee be deducted. She had to earn it back.
Bella lowered her head and crossed her hands. The shining diamond made her eyes squint.
She wore a diamond ring worth twenty million dollars; she was the wife of the Lord. However, she was now penalized for being late just one minute. And he caused her to be late.
What a life she leads.
Suddenly Charles’s voice sounded again, “I need to attend an activity this afternoon. I need someone with me. If someone behaves well, maybe…”
Bella grabbed his hand excitedly before he could finish, “I will be good. I promise I will behave.”
Charles then phoned someone saying, “Move all activities this afternoon to tomorrow.”
Was it because she agreed to accompany him that he cancelled everything this afternoon? Bella was puzzled.
Charles hung up the phone and saw that Bella was still here. “Don’t you need to work? Leave now!”
“Yes, yes. Thanks, my Lord.” Bella then rushed out at once.
Her cell phone rang the moment she got back to her desk. She picked up, and it was Lynn Sanders. She shouted at Bella, “Bella Brook, you are shameless. How dare you block my number !”
Bella sneered, “I have blocked your number, but you still call me on another phone. Who is shameless?”
“Hum! I won't argue with you today.” Lynn snorted and said to her in an air of superiority. “Martin and I will be getting married this afternoon. I invite you to..”
“I’m busy.” Bella interrupted her, and she hung up immediately.
But Bella’s cell phone rang again before she could block the number. Bella answered the phone without speaking anything for fear of disturbing her colleagues. Lynn shouted again on the phone, “You dare to hang up the phone! Bella Brook, if you do not come, I will tell the press that you are rude and narrow-minded.”
“Whatever!”
She hung up again, muted her phone, and ignored it the rest of the time.
In the end, Lynn still sent an invitation to her by email.
Whatever Lynn Sanders said about her, Bella would not care. She did not want the activity with Charles this afternoon to be influenced. Attending this activity was more important than anything.
Martin Smith really made her sick. He was getting married to Lynn today, but he still tried to get with her yesterday.
Were all men like that!?
So, did Charles. He had someone else in his mind, but he still wanted her to deliver his baby. It made her sick.
Bella’s heart hurt when she thought of that.
There was still one hour left before lunch. The busy secretarial pool became quiet now.
No one had assigned any substantial tasks to Bella, so, she was bored and drew pictures in her sketchbook.
The ordinary pencil turned compliantly in her fingertips, and soon a picture appeared on the snowy white sheet: A girl on the bus looked down at a man in a car.
What should she name it? What about ‘I despise you now?’ Or ‘You are beside me now?’
No, no. The name must show great momentum.
Well, just name it ‘Demon In the Dust.’
Bella smiled. That was it.
A hand reached for her sketchbook the moment she was about to write the name down.
Bella was frightened and looked up only to see that Charles was watching her.
“Lor…lord!” Bella immediately stood up. But because of nerves and her quick movement, her knee slammed into the leg of the desk. She yelped in pain.
In the whole office, the sound she made was the loudest.
With one hand in his pocket the other held the sketchbook, Charles stood there casually. But Bella’s forehead burst into a cold sweat.
She picked up the phone immediately, “Hello, Williams Group, how may I help you?”
