Chapter 74 – The Unconsidered Outcome
In the large conference room of Williams Building, the meeting continued, but the atmosphere was tense, and the air was even colder. Everyone had become more cautious when they reported. The directors of the companies, whose performance had not met the annual goal last year, held their breaths..
Charles’s cold eyes swept through the people sitting, their heads straight ahead but bowed slightly under his sights.
“The directors, who have not met their goals will be moved down two grades, and their income will be cut down by 30%. Does anyone have an objection?
No one dared to object.
Charles left immediately and went back to his office angerly.
He played with a red velvet ring box in his hand; his thin lips pressed tightly into a line. A sudden, a cold wind seemed to blow around his body, and the documents on the desk moved slightly.
The manager of the jewelry store had sent back the diamond ring.
Bella, Damn it! Sold the ring.
Ten million!
He spent twenty million for this custom-made ring, and she sold it at half of the price. At this time, she must be at the hospital happily…
Hospital!
His eyes were scrunched, and he made a call to Ziv’s extension, “Come here.”
“My Lord, what can I do for you?” Ziv came to his office in a brief time and asked.
“Call the hospital and ask whether Bella was there this afternoon.” Charles ground his teeth, “Did she pay the treatment fee for her mother?”
Ziv made the call to the hospital before in front of Charles, and Charles’s face got darker every sentence that Ziv repeated from the doctor. When Ziv had finished the call, Charles’s face was twisted by the rage.
Ziv was frightened but reported him the truth, “My Lord, Lady had paid three months’ cost for the treatment. And asked when her mother could be transferred to another hospital.”
“Buy the hospital.” Charles’s voice was frigid and hard, and his command was unquestionable.
Ziv answered like it was a conditioned reflex, “Yes, Lord.”
Ziv went out quickly to execute the command. Charles was left alone in his large president’s office.
He pressed the button on the ring box with his slender finger, the container sprang open. A ring with a massive diamond on it sat inside. His finger moved slightly on it, and waves were surging in his blue eyes.
Good job, Bella.
Bella felt two different kinds of looks from around the office when she arrived. One was friendly, and the other was hostile.
But she could not find where was the source of the looks came from, as everyone in the room was busy doing their jobs.
Shirley walked over to Bella and gave her a gentle smile, “MiLady, Lord asked for you to go to his office as soon as you came back.”
“All right, thank you.” Bella just caught sight of her badge, which was shown that her title as “Team Leader - Shirley.”
How quickly she was promoted, as she was just an assistant manager this morning.
“As you like, MiLady. I will go back to my job now.” Shirley patted Bella’s shoulder gently, “Don’t keep the Lord waiting for too long.”
Though she tried to stay calm on the way to Charles’s office, Bella was getting more nervous as she approached the door.
She inhaled deeply and released it out slowly, and then raised her hand and knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
She could feel the cold in his voice through the thick wooden door.
Bella relaxed her rigid muscles of her lips, made her smile look natural. And she pushed the door open and went in, she stood before his desk gently and respectfully, “My lord.”
Hearing her voice, Charles raised his head from the documents and looked at her firmly.
His face was expressionless, without a bit of emotion.
Bella looked into his eyes innocently.
Her big eyes were pensive and questioning, it looked like she had not done anything wrong.
Charles made a look to her bare fingers, asked indifferently, “Where is the ring?”
Bella touched her finger, and her face turned white. She forgot to buy a fake one, though she had been thinking to buy one on her way to the jewelry shop.
What to say, what to say?
Charles looked at her flashing eyes, he sneered,” Bella, do you know how much that ring cost?”
Bella asked uncomfortably, “How, how much?”
“Twenty million.”
“Twenty million?” Bella’s eyes were wide, that was why the manager wanted to do the business so eagerly.
Charles just gave her a smile, looked at her relaxed, “So, if the ring is lost, what are you going to do to pay for it?”
“I, I must have put it somewhere. I can find it.” She might be able to find a fake one online.
Charles kept his smile and rested his back to the chair, said casually, ‘Bella, you have not sold the ring, have you?”
Bella shook her head, “No, that is impossible.”
“No…”
“Knock, knock…” came through the door.
Charles’s eyes didn’t move from Bella, but said slightly, “Come in.”
Bella was scared by his stare, when she saw Ziv coming in, she found an excuse to run away, “Since you want to talk about business, I, I will leave now. I don’t want to bother you.”
Charles stared at her firmly, “Did I allow you to leave?”
“No.” Bella stood there and cringed. As she realized Charles had caught her doing wrong, the tension in her hearth made her rub her forehead.
“Say,” Charles said, and his eyes were still fixed on Bella.
Say, say what?
Bella hesitated to ask. Meanwhile, Ziv answered, “Lord, MD Anderson Clinic has agreed to our offer, here is the draft contract with the conditions and terms.”
Charles took the contract, read every line carefully.
MD Anderson Clinic? Bella’s eyes twinkled. Why was the name so familiar to her? After a while, she realized, it was the hospital her mother was at.
Does Charles want to buy the hospital?
Why did he want to buy the one that her mother is in? To control her and give birth to his child?
A thousand questions appeared in Bella’s mind, but Charles did not give her a look.
“Add an additional requirement, the last day for the financial reports of the hospital was until yesterday. So, it does not include the revenue of today.”
“Yes, Lord, I will ask the hospital have today’s income deducted.” Ziv took back the contract from Charles and made a nod to Bella and went out.
What did he mean by “deduct today’s income,” Bella was puzzled?
Bella got a message from the hospital, “In the course of an internal financial adjustment, we will have to refund all the payments done today. All patients or their agents should come in person to complete the payment tomorrow afternoon.”
Along with the message, there was the bank proof of the refund.
Bella had an ominous omen in her mind, she was dumb.
Charles watched her body tremble, rose up and walked over to her, his deep gorgeous voice had a sense of humour. “What are you guilty of?”
Charles’s cold eyes swept through the people sitting, their heads straight ahead but bowed slightly under his sights.
