Chapter 73 – White Lies

“I will never get back with you, you disgust me. Get out of my way.” Bella panted because of the violent movement, but her struggle triggered Martin’s desire for her.

He felt the friction between his body and hers; he could not help to lower his head to kiss her.

Bella widened her eyes and swayed her head sideways; Martin’s lips fell on her neck.

She  pushed his head away at once and sent Martin reeling.

Bella slapped his face, “Next time if you dare to do so, I will be sure to call the police.”

She wiped hard on her neck, where Martin kissed and went on to find another taxi.

Martin was not upset by the slap, but he just smiled gently. It had been four years, for the first time he could see something else from her beside her gentleness.

He had never got her, and she even did not know how to kiss. She was too basic, not charming, not humorous, not cute, not sexy, and conservative. He could not find any plus’s about her but her beautiful face.

So, when Lynn laid naked on his bed, tempting him with her sexy body, he just could not resist.

But now, he just saw a different side of Bella,

“Bella, where do you want to go? I can take you there.” Martin did not grab Bella again and calmed himself down. He had confidence in Bella’s former love for him. Last time she was taken away by Charles on the beach, she said to him, “…think about the life we shared…”

She still relied on him, so he must calm down.

At last a taxi came to the roadside, Bella could not wait any longer, she just opened the door and jumped into the car.

“Hurry, please.” She did not want to see Martin again.

She was really sick of him.

It was lucky that they had broken up. What a fool Bella was before, she even wanted to marry Martin.

Martin did not follow up with her and just stood there. He touched his slapped face and looked to the gate of jewelry center. After a moment of hesitation, he walked through the doors.

In the large meeting room of Williams Group, Charles listened to the senior staff members from all over the world making their annual reports.

Charles did not lift his head and said in a deep voice, “Bella, give me water.”

The meeting room became silent.

Charles raised his head slowly, he looked around and dropped his eyes on the secretary-manager, who had been standing in the corner. “Where is Bella?”

“My Lord, Lady Williams stayed in the office on duty.” She had worked for Charles for many years, although she trembled under Charles’s fearful gaze she answered in a professional and calmly manner.

Lady Williams…

Despite the girls in the secretarial pool, other people did not know that Charles had a wife.

Although they did not dare to gossip about anything, the same information was appearing in everybody’s eyes.

When did the Lord get married?

“Let her come over,” Charles said coldly.

On duty? She must be slacking at this moment.

“Yes, Lord!” The manager walked out of the room immediately and went to the secretarial pool.

The meeting went on, and the cup in front of Charles was empty.

The manager came back quickly with no one behind her, Charles’s eyes froze, “Where is she?”

The manager, Lucy, was not able to be calm this time, she lowered her head and answered with her voice shivering, “My Lord, she was not there.”

“Not there?” Charles put down the document and leaned back in his chair. He turned to Lucy with a forcing air, “Tell me, what do you mean by ‘not there’?”

It meant ‘she could not find her anywhere.’

Lucy could only stare at her feet and did not dare to move.

“Tell me how to be responsible for the orientation of a new employee?”

“Do pre-service training with the company rules…” Lucy’s voice was quiet, and she was about to cry.

Although every department must be responsible for new employee training, usually the department of personnel resources was responsible for the introduction and explanation of the company rules to the new employee. So, her department had not done the pre-service training.

Charles glanced at her distantly,” Very good, Shirley will replace you as the manager, and you take her place as an assistant.”

Charles got up suddenly, kicked back his chair and walked straight out of the meeting room.

Ziv stayed in his chair and looked around, “Let’s take a break.”

Charles rushed back to his office and picked up the telephone on his desk.

Bella answered the call with pleasure, “Hi.”

“Bella Williams, is this your attitude at work?” Charles’s voice sounded so cold that it could have frozen a man.

A shiver ran down Bella’s spine. And her tone became shy, “I, I am in that womanly time. I just went out to buy something. I am on my way back right now.”

That time?

Charles realized that she was on her menstrual period. Then he felt less angry. But his voice was still cold, “You must report to your supervisor when you leave the company during work hours, didn’t you know that?”

Bella answered quickly, “Yes, I know. But I could not find her, and it was an emergency, I was just so worried and hurried downstairs. I am on my way, it is true, in a few seconds.”

Charles was about to talk, but his office phone rang, he noticed the number on the screen was from a jewelry shop.

He picked up the phone and heard the respectful but fearful voice of the manager, “My Lord, one of my colleagues in the jewelry shop center just collected the customized diamond ring from Lady Williams, are you not satisfied with the ring? Please tell me?”

A diamond ring from Lady Williams!

Charles’s eyes darkened, and he held the receiver of the telephone tightly. He ordered, “Send the ring to me right now.”

Bella held her phone to her ear, on the other side of the phone, she could hear him talk to someone else, and she would not dare hang up the call, and so she waited quietly.

Charles’s voice sounded angry, when he got back to Bella he snarled, “In ten minutes, be in my office.”

“Ten minutes is not enough time, give me twenty minutes, OK?” Bella wanted to bargain, but he had hung up the phone.

How rude!

In ten minutes!

Bella trembled as she thought of the punishment Charles may have in store for her. She asked the doctor who she had been talking to, “You said my mother could be transferred after three months of observation if she is in stable condition, didn’t you?

“Theoretically, yes.”

Well, at least they saw hope on the matter.

Bella deposited the payment for the treatment of three months.

Then she rushed out of the hospital and took a taxi, she remembered to store the phone number that Charles had called from in her phone.

It was usually half an hour from hospital to the company; unfortunately, it took her more than one hour because of a traffic jam.

Well, she might be punished to be a toy ball in the dolphin house or to run twenty miles around the Mansion. He could not have another new way of punishment. Could he?

Then Bella was able to calm down with the thought. It was no use to be anxious, right?
