Chapter 67 – An Outing

How long has it been since he drove last? Roy acted as if he had never seen Charles Williams drive.

Roy was worried about Charles driving. He wondered if he should remind him of the matters that needed attention while driving. But he chose to be silent when Charles looked coldly at him.

Bella was not aware that Charles had not driven for years, because along the way Charles drove the car in a rapid speed, which was frightening.

She had no idea what was wrong with him why he drove so fast. Bella held the seat tight to prevent herself from shaking too much. She felt her stomach turn.

She valued her life a lot. Bella still needed to take care of her mother. She could not die here.

Bella held back the feeling to vomit and tentatively placed her hand on his hand that held the steering wheel, she said, “My Lord, actually I am not in that much of a hurry.”

After his practice along the road, Charles had finally figured out the various functions of the car. He looked at Bella’s hand and smiled. He then gradually slowed down. “I am in a hurry.”

Anyway, he slowed down.

Thank God!

Bella leaned on the window and released her breath.

She opened her mouth wide which was like a fish that hung in the air and took its last breath. Charles looked at her pale face and said, “When we reach the police station, cancel the report.”

“What?” Bella felt nauseous and didn’t hear clearly what he had said.

Charles was unusually patient and explained, “I’ll help you with your mother’s case, so you need to cancel it at the police station.”

Bella finally understood that he was talking about and replied, “OK.”

Charles was surprised at her reaction. He smiled, “Aren’t you afraid that I will cheat you?”

“Cheat me?” Bella looked at him and smiled, “I don’t think you would lie and cheat a person like me.”

A dazzling light flashed through his eyes, he smiled pretentiously, “Well, nobody deserves me lying to her.”

She had to admit that his arrogance somehow convinced her.

That was his momentum and his pride.

Bella also did not like to tell lies. Like the nude pictures that were spread around that time, nobody had believed her no matter how much she explained. Because she did not have the dominance that Charles had to protect her pride.

No, she had no pride at all.

When they reached the police station, Bella cancelled the investigation and took back her mother’s things.

Charles drove smoothly on their way back. Bella opened her mother’s bag to check the stuff one by one.

There was fruit that she had prepared for Bess, which was smashed. In the bag was Bess’s wallet with some change and a piece of paper folded neatly.

Bella opened the paper and saw the note she left for her mother: “Mum, this fruit is for you. Remember to go to work early in the evening and come back late in the morning. Don’t go back in the middle of the night. Also, remember to text me before and after work.”

She finished the letter with “Bella that woman who loved her Mum the most.” and a smilie face.

Her mother also wrote some words on it.

“Bella, have you slept? Mum is going to work now. I will enjoy the fruit. I will send you a message after work. Now my Bella should sleep.”

Her mother finished the letter with “The Mum who loved her Bella the most.” and a smilie face.

Bella covered her face with her hands and started to cry, the tears fell through her fingers onto her mother’s bag. Soon there was a pool of water perfectly formed on top of it.

She sobbed silently.

She buried her face between her pale hands. Her hair fell and covered her face. Though her expression was unseen, you could have seen from her continually shaking shoulders the grief and sorrow she felt.

Charles suddenly turned around.

Bella was tossed against the window which brought her back from the grief.

She was with Charles. He changed direction quickly.

Her tears must have irritated him.

When a man did not care about a woman, her tears bothered him.

Bella immediately wiped her tears and put away her mother’s stuff. She did not wish to look at the message again because she was afraid that she could not control her tears.

“My Lord, where are we going?”

It was not the way back to his house.

Charles glanced at her and said, “You are talking too much.”

Bella shut her mouth and looked ahead.

Charles did not answer. But he remembered her expression.

She was in great sorrow, but she still forced a smile.

Charles smiled, “Now you are so well-behaved.”

Bella looked at him and smiled a standard toothy smile, “My Lord, I will also be like that in the days to come.”

It was said that no one could hate a smiling face. Bella would always smile in the future.

Even if at the moment she did not want to smile at all.

Charles did not say anything and pressed the accelerator to speed up.

He stopped the car at the entrance of a jewelry store. The manager had waited for him at the door. He bowed down humbly when he saw Charles walk up, “My Lord, please. I have already got it ready for you.”

Charles walked in. He was tall and walked quickly. Bella had to run to catch up with him. After all, he was too arrogant to stop and wait for her.

Bella noticed the name of this store, it was the biggest jewelry store in Vancouver. The luxurious displays and first class service made the prices of its products much higher than that of its competitor. And ordinary people would never buy things here.

The customers of this store were those powerful and wealthy people.

Charles was lead to the VIP room by the manager. He sat there and commanded, “Bring it to me.”

“Please wait here for a moment, I will be right back.” The manager walked out and closed the door when he left.

Bella sat there straight. She wondered why Charles brought her here. Would he buy her jewelry just because she was well-behaved?
