Chapter 64 – Okay I Will
Charles stood at the doorway with the T-shirt that he just took off in his hand and looked at her. He was naked, except for a thin layer of sweat. His perfect body showed the endless temptation.
He looked at her as if she was an ant that was tiny and negligible.
They had such an intimate relationship and were legally married. But they were also the most intimate strangers.
Because there was no love between them.
Bella felt breathless as she thought of that. The words she had prepared to say were caught in her throat.
She would have lost her dignity if she had spoken them out.
Charles looked at the grief in Bellas' eyes. He then noticed the smell of menstrual blood and saw the bruise on her hand. He finally asked puzzled, “You want to have sex with me on your period?”
He knew she was on her period?
Her chest ached, and she felt out of breath. She was terribly upset.
Except for a deal, what else existed between them?
Bella clenched her fists, and the pain on her hand became more severe.
But the pain was a lot less than the pain she felt in her heart.
“My Lord.” Bella looked up at him. She bit her lip to stop her voice from trembling. After calming herself down, she continued, “I have agreed to give you a baby. But…”
She knew she had to say that aloud sooner or later. Though she had repeated those words along the way here, in the end, she still could not accept that at all.
Charles looked at Bella leisurely, “Go on.”
Compared to Bella’s trembling voice though she had tried to restrain it, Charles’s voice was as calm as he was always was, which showed a world of difference between them.
Bella continued, and her body trembled as she spoke the words out, “I need money.”
After she spat that out, it was like she had lost all of her strength and stepped back.
But she still did her best to hold her head high and looked at Charles.
She needed his answer. She needed the money.
Charles raised his eyebrows and said with a smirk, “Are you bargaining with me?”
Bella turned white and thought that he got angry. She immediately kneeled down. However, Charles caught her arms and stood her up. He pressed her against the wall and said, “It’s useless to kneel down. Why not tell me what you want me to do to you in the meantime.” He glanced at her body and said, “That’s how a deal is made.”
Deal…
There was something inside her broken heart, the pieces pricked every inch of her skin.
Sure enough. The relationship between them finally became one of supply and demand. She had sold herself out.
“My mother is in a coma. It will cost $25,000 a month, $300,000 a year to treat her. I need that sum of money.” Bella looked aside and bared all the humiliation she would have, “Will you give the total sum of $300,000 or $25,000 a month for a year? Whatever, it’s up to you, my Lord.”
“Bella, you are cheap.” Charles’s words hurt her.
She didn’t want to cry, it would only have made a joke of herself.
Bella looked straight at him and continued, “I’m not cheap. I haven’t finished yet.”
Charles raised his eyebrows and was intrigued, “So?”
Bella spoke out word by word, “I only agree to be pregnant on the condition I mentioned before. If you want the baby to be delivered safely, there is one more important requirement.”
“Speak it out,” Charles said coldly.
“You need to figure out who had hurt my mother. I won’t allow the man to be at large.”
“No problem.” Charles touched her pale but smooth cheek. His hot breath spread around her face, and the warmth penetrated her cells little by little.
“It is impossible that I give you the total sum at once. After all, you don’t always behave yourself.”
“Than…”
Charles interrupted her before she could thank him, “$25,000 per month. $1000 will be deducted every time you make a mistake. Do remember to behave yourself from now on.”
“Yes, my Lord.” Bella nodded her head.
How could she not behave herself, her mother’s life was in his hands.
Bella caught his hand when she noticed that he was about to walk away.
Charles stopped and looked at her hand that held his. He raised his eyebrows and did not speak.
“I…I’m sorry.” Bella let go of his hand hurriedly and asked him in a cautious voice, “When will you help me find the man that hurt my mum? Can you do it as soon as possible?”
“Yes.” Charles was suddenly in a good mood and gave her a glance, “Come to me at 7:40 a.m. every day.”
“Yes, my Lord.” Bella agreed at once.
“Don’t you want to know why?”
Bella shook her head, “I’ll just do as you say, and there is no need to know why.”
Charles nodded his head satisfactorily. He patted her head and said, “Remember what you said just now. Behave yourself from now on.”
“Yes, my Lord.”
Charles then turned around and walked toward the bathroom with only a “get out” left behind.
Bella left his room.
Not long after she returned to her room, Roy knocked at her door and handed her a bank card, “My Lady, this month’s money for your mom’s treatment is on this card. Next month the Lord will transfer the money needed to it.”
“Thank you.” Bella took it.
“Actually, the Lord is really good to you. He had never gotten involved with a bank before.” Roy looked at her with a smile.
Bella forced a smile and said, “Thanks.”
Was he good to her?
That’s the way one was good to another? He had left her in the rain. He had thrown her into the water making her a plaything of the dolphin. He had deprived her of her freedom just for his own child.
She was unable to afford that kind of “good.”
But she had to show him gratitude. Because at that moment he was the only one she could ask for help.
She hadn’t slept the whole night.
In the morning at 7:40 a.m. Bella appeared at Charles’s room. She knocked on the door and it opened shortly after.
Charles stood at the doorway and held her hand to bring her in.
He locked the door and said pleased, “You are punctual.”
Bella stood against the wall and lowered her head, “You have told me.”
Looking at her peaceful expression, Charles put his hand on her delicate shoulder. He took off her light-coloured coat and rubbed her shoulder with his fingers.
He looked at her as if she was an ant that was tiny and negligible.
They had such an intimate relationship and were legally married. But they were also the most intimate strangers.
