Chapter 61 – Saved Once More
Bella walked home with a bag of fruit and snacks in hand.
Len Sanders had gone too far. How could he beat her mother? She must show them! Whoever bullied her mother must pay the price.
When Lynn Sanders’s stole the necklace at the auction, it was only known in the aristocratic circle. The public knew nothing about that and just thought she was a great celebrity who was almost raped by some men when she went to help one of her “fans.”
What could she do to prevent her mother from being bullied by others?
Ziv had the surveillance video that proved it was Lynn Sanders that had stolen the necklace. What about asking for a copy of that?
“Watch out!” An anxious voice yelled, and Bella fell into a warm hug. By then she saw a motorcycle pass through the space she was just in.
So dangerous!
Bella patted her chest to calm herself down and sighed in relief.
“Bella. You always put yourself in such dangerous situations. How can I rest assured?” A soft voice sounded from above.
Bella raised her head and saw Edwin’s worried face. In the next moment, she suddenly remembered something that made her push him away and then leave.
Wait, why should she go?
She thought there were so many things that waited for her to explain when she faced him.
It was as if others saw a woman with scars and all left her more embarrassed. If a man kept asking the reasons for the marks, there would be much more pain caused for her.
She was grateful to Edwin though.
If he asked her, should she tell him?
“Bella.” Edwin caught up with her after just a few steps. He asked her with a warm smile, “I have just saved you once more, and you just leave?” He raised his eyebrows and continued, “Then I don’t think I will be that nice next time.”
He said in a relaxed tone and did not mention what had happened last night. Bella did not know what to do.
She was not good at playing roles.
She took a deep breath and said to him, “You heard what my husband said yesterday. We’d better not see each other anymore.”
Edwin frowned, “Is he really your husband? I thought he was just a man who was pursuing you.” He smiled mildly, “Speaking of it, your husband is too overbearing. Though you two are married, you still have the freedom to make friends. Like the situation yesterday, I think any friend of yours would not leave you alone if they saw you. What do you think?”
His words made her relaxed.
After all, others did not know that she was imprisoned by Charles to give birth to his child.
“You are right.” Bella felt calm and smiled brightly, "Thank you for taking me home yesterday.”
“So, it seemed that I have saved you three times now.” Edwin smiled warmly and brightly, “May I know when this beautiful lady will treat me to a meal to return the favour?”
“I’m sorry, but my mum is waiting for me to come back.” If it weren’t for his help yesterday, she would have slept on the pavement in the rain for a whole night.
The reason Charles brought her back as he knew she was picked up by Edwin. She could see that from how quickly he reached Edwin’s house.
Charles must have someone spy on her.
A faint sadness moved through Edwin’s eyes. He touched her head and said, “I’ll wait for your meal.”
“Okay, okay,” Bella replied quickly and ran away.
If she did not leave, she was afraid that she would feel bad and immediately have a meal with him. She still remembered what Charles had said last night. She should not cause trouble for Edwin.
When he saw that she left so quickly, he felt miserable. She indeed did not remember anything.
When she arrived home, she washed the fruit in the kitchen. Suddenly the phone in her pocket rang; it turned out to be Charles.
She answered the phone and replied politely, “My Lord?”
“Come back in ten minutes!” Charles shouted at her without restraining his anger. She could feel how angry he was even through the phone.
“You gave me one day leave,” Bella explained to him patiently. In fact, the feeling of escaping from the gates of hell after being punished by Charles really made her very scared. However, every time, Charles always provoked her to a new height where she was not afraid of him once more.
“I’m not giving you a day off to let you date another man,” Charles said coldly. The chill could have frozen her to death.
“Date?” Bella was astonished. But soon she thought of that day she had met Edwin. She yelled out, “Are you spying on me?”
Charles disdained her, “Spy on you? There is nothing in the world that I need to spy on. Let me make it clear if you do not appear in time, be ready to bear the consequences.”
Bella trembled in shock and felt very angry, “I can’t make it back in ten minutes. You have been here before. It takes me two hours by bus.”
“Then get back in two hours. Or else…” Charles said coldly, “One-minute late equals an entire day for me. Bella, make a good calculation of how many days you have in a lifetime.”
“I will leave immediately.” Bella put the fruit away quickly and left a message for her mom to tell her to go to work early and come back in the morning.
She grabbed her bag and rushed to the bus stop. Bella began to look around to see if anyone had followed her when she boarded the bus. She was sure that Charles had made someone spy on her. How else could he know she had met Edwin?
But she did not see anyone who looked like they would have followed her. Everyone on this bus was old ladies who had just finished morning shopping.
Bella sighed.
Forget about it. If Charles indeed spied on her, it would not be that easy for her to figure it out.
She wondered what punishment she would receive today.
Bella sighed. If only they loved each other…
Bella then slapped her face to clear her head.
Charles was cold-hearted. He did not have feelings. Even if he did, he would not love her. He was always cold to her.
Just when she was lost in various fancies and conjectures, she received a call from Len Sanders.
“Bella, if you do not agree to marry Charles. I will never let go of Bess Brook.” He said to her with a vicious and cruel voice.
Bella was shocked, “Are you crazy? If you dare to hurt my mum one more time. I will do anything to fight back!”
Len Sanders sneered, “Really? What will you do? Sue me? Does Bess Brook dare go to court? Let alone the police station?”
Yes, Bess did not dare to. So he was confident that he always had a way to deal with them.
