Chapter 47 – Edwin the Swee
Bella was a little self-conscious due to last night’s events, so she was reasonably absent-minded today.
Edwin looked at her discomposed expression, He raised his hand to caress her hair and asked softly, “Bella, What’s wrong? Is there something on your mind?”
He was so tolerant and warm that it effortlessly touched the fragile place in her heart and provoked her to sob.
Bella lowered her head, casually fiddled with the fork in her hand and said with gently, “I am okay.” She paused, “Well, actually something bad happened to my friend, so I don’t know what I should do now, and I’m just baffled.”
She looked up at him with some apology in her eyes and continued, “I am sorry for the effect on you.”
Edwin gently touched her hair as if he was pacifying a fidgety kitten and then said, “My silly girl! It’s better to tell me about your friend. After all, I am several years older than you, so maybe I can give you some advice.”
Bella was hesitant. For she had only met Edwin twice. It was not proper to tell him such private things.
“It seems that I don’t look like a trustworthy person,” Edwin chuckled, and some sadness showed in his eyes.
His slightly confused look made Bella feel guilty and that she was somehow cruel, so she said “In fact, it’s nothing serious. I just want to know why a man would designate a particular woman rather than any other woman to have a baby for him.”
“Ha-ha. Normally it is because he loves her,” Edwin said with a bright smile as if he was watching a little entertainment.
Bella said, “But what if the man doesn’t love that woman?”
Edwin stopped smiling and said, “Maybe he has another purpose.”
Bella became a little nervous and asked, “What other kinds of purpose is there?”
Edwin blinked and answered, “Maybe he needs a child with a special blood type. But as for the use of this child, I don’t know. The biggest use that I can think of is to cure disease.”
The use of a child... for a cure!
Bella’s face suddenly turned pale. That thought had never crossed her mind.
So, what did Charles want to do with her child?
Indeed, she had an unusual blood type so her child could have the same.
She once thought that Charles’s reason for wanting her to give him a child was that the woman he loved was infertile, so he came to Vancouver to find a strange woman to provide him with a child, to bring it back his country and then claim that the child was born by his beloved.
After all, this was the most famous plot in romantic fiction.
It turned out that what he wanted was the distinct blood of this child. Charles was so vicious that he wanted to drink Bella’s and her child ’s blood.
What kind of disease was cured by drinking human blood?
When she thought of the blood that flowed away from her body last night, her body gradually became cold, Bella’s hand that held the fork shook unconsciously. She did not want to feel the fear of thinking she was going to die again, nor did she want her child to know that feeling.
But what should she do? How could she get out of there?
“Don’t worry about that. Any problem will eventually be solved,” Edwin said with his hand touching her head. “If you need help, you can call me at any time.”
Bella looked at his bright eyes and nodded, “Thank you.”
Sometimes people could get closer because of some soothing words.
Honestly, she didn’t want to ask for his help, but her heart was warm due to the words said by this person who she had met by chance.
After Bella had left, Edwin sighed, “Are you the one, Bella?”
“Young Master, I am back,” a teenager about eighteen came in and said.
Edwin looked up at him and said, “How is it going?”
“Not so well. Master hoped that you could let him see Miss before he passes away,” the teenager said as he bowed.
Edwin smirked and said, “There shall be a result tonight.”
Bella left the bookstore confused.
What should she do? Should she go back to Williams Mansion or go home and escape with her mother before Charles came back?
No, she must escape! What if Charles wanted her to give birth to a child with the sole purpose of draining the child’s blood?
After pacing back and forth in the street and speculating in panic countless times, Bella decided to escape with Bess.
Just as she pulled out her phone, it rang. Caller-ID said it was from Bess, but when she answered the voice on the other end of the line was not her mother but some man.
“Are you Bess Brooks daughter? Come to get your mother. Otherwise, we will send her to the police station,” The voice sounded annoyed, and then he asked for money.
Bella was shocked and thought that Bess had been kidnapped. After listening to him for a long time, Bella realized that Bess had been accused of stealing a customer’s wallet when she was at work. Although the wallet was retrieved, the diamond ring inside of it was gone.
“Please don’t put my mother in a cell! I’m on my way,” Bella quickly calmed that man down. After she hung up the phone, she rushed to the Hale’s Hotel.
When Bella arrived at the Hotel, Bess was held in the security room. During the sweltering summer heat, she was held in the unventilated room for two or three hours, her face was so pale that she looked like she was about to suffocate.
“Mum,” Bella called and quickly helped her. She looked at the hotel guard and shouted, “This is unlawful detainment, and I can sue you.”
She didn’t expect that the security guard would coldly say, “If she didn’t stop us, we would call the police.”
Bella hated the fact that Bess was confined and said, “Mum, why do you still care about how things look? How can we be dignified people in the future if things aren’t investigated clearly?”
The security guard said nonchalantly, “All the monitors of the hotel showed that only your mother entered the customer’s room at the time of the incident. Otherwise, we would not rush to shut her up.” Then he looked at Bella and said, “In order not to affect the hotel’s reputation, the hotel already compensated the loss to the customer. You must pay the hotel $20,000 now, then you can take her away.”
“What? $20,000?” Bella shouted, and her eyes widened. “Why should I believe that he even lost a diamond ring? Did you see it in his wallet?”
The security guard impassively said, “We have no reason to check the customer’s wallet. If you decline to pay, we will call the police.”
Bess grabbed Bella’s hands and pleaded, “Don’t, don’t, don’t call the police. Bella, please don’t let them call the police.”
She was choked, she looked like she would have almost passed out.
Bella was so angry that she wanted to cry. She fell into a rage because her mother still wanted to save face. Where was she going to get $20,000?
Bess looked at the security guard and gasped hard, “You let me go, and I can sell a kidney to pay the money. Please don’t put my daughter in such a position. She is still a student, so she hasn’t got any money.”
Edwin looked at her discomposed expression, He raised his hand to caress her hair and asked softly, “Bella, What’s wrong? Is there something on your mind?”
