Chapter 46 - Never Challenge Him

Bella was frightened, her eyes widened as she stared at the knife in Roy’s hand, “What are you doing?!”

She fought with all her strength, but her body was secured tightly to the chair. She could hardly move.

Elsa took a red pill from her medicine cabinet, and explained to her, “Please calm down, we won’t harm you. We just need some of your blood to examine. This is a pill which will help you to recover from the blood loss.”

“You only need a needle to draw blood, why are you using a knife??” Bella questioned, she, of course, knew how nurses draw blood. No one would cut the skin to take the blood.

Elsa laughed, “The amount of blood we need will be a little bit more.”

But little did Bella know, it would not actually be a little bit more blood than a needle could take, but a lot more.

Bella wanted to say something, but before she could, Elsa hinted to Roy with a glance, Roy raised the knife, and Bella shut her eyes tight, she did not want to watch. There was no pain from her wrist, but she felt something like a leaf brush her skin.

She opened her eyes slowly, a tube extended from the bottom of the chair arm and connected to the wound on her wrist.

The fresh blood from her body moved quickly into the transparent glass tube.

“Are you going to take all of my blood?” Bella’s face went pale, “Is that what Charles wants? To take all my blood, so he doesn’t need me anymore?”

Elsa explained, “No, please do not think that. The red pill that you took will help hematopoiesis. Which means it will help quicken the formation of blood in your body. You may feel a little faint because of the blood loss, but you will recover in a short time.”

Damn it, what nonsense!

Bella cursed this kind-hearted old woman in her heart. While the temperature of her body lowered, and her sight started to blear. She should not have come back. But she was frightened of Charles, who would have definitely tortured her more if she tried to run away.

Bella grieved. Everyone here was disguised, they seemingly respected her but looked her as if she were nothing. Calling her “Lady,” but no one asked for her permission before they took her blood.

There was one thought that echoed in her head before she lost consciousness, she must leave here.

“Aunt Elsa, I will bring the blood to the Lord immediately, please take the Lady to her room to rest.” Roy took the tube that held the blood and rushed out the door.

He went in the direction of the sea.

Bella woke up the next morning, she was once again in her bed. Tears gleamed in her eyes as she looked up at the ceiling and she felt weak. After a minute she sat up. And thought to herself.

She was just a pass-by guest who in their eyes was just there to give birth to Charles’s child. The marriage certificate signed between her and Charles was just to hide the fact that she didn’t want to have his child and for them all to save face in the public eye.

Confident that she would be dismissed from Williams Mansion on the day that the child was born. She became resentful. However, she could not challenge Charles anymore, as she had to live under his roof.

She got up and cleaned Charles’s chamber before she grabbed her stuff to leave.

“Lady, would you like breakfast before going out?” Roy stood at the bottom of the stairs and looked up at Bella, who carried her handbag, ready to leave, he bowed to her gracefully.

“Not today.” Bella bowed to him and said, “I will back before 8 pm.”

She texted a message to Charles as usual on the way to the bookstore.

As she got up late this morning and did not have time to eat breakfast, she arrived at the bookstore late, and Edwin had almost finished the book in his hand.

“I’m sorry I’m late.” Bella apologized to Edwin. It was evidently too late to have lunch at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Edwin was going to tease her for being late but noticed her pale face and colourless lips when he looked up at her. He grabbed her and sat her on the sofa, “Are you okay? You look ill.”

After they took her blood, no one at Williams Mansion had asked how she was, she almost teared up from his concern.

“I’m okay, I just felt faint taking the bus.” Bella laughed and stood up, “Let’s go for lunch.”

Edwin said, “At this point, the lunch chefs should have got off work, and no one would be back until dinner.” And laughed, “There would be only one chef at this time of day that could provide service for you in this neighbourhood.”

The puzzled look in Bella’s eyes brought him more joy, “Come with me.”

That was the first time Bella saw a man cooking anywhere other than a restaurant.

There was a small kitchen with a delicate design in the rear of that bookshop, as well as a quaint little table.

Bella wanted to cook the food for him, but Edwin told her to sit down on a chair, and handed her a cup of tea, “You want to cook this meal for me to express your thanks, using my kitchen? No way, this time isn’t counted. I will cook today, so you still owe me one meal.”

His words were reasonable, Bella could not disagree, so she sipped the tea in her hand.

The tea tasted somehow strange, “What kind of tea is this?

“It is a mix of rose and chrysanthemum.” Edwin stopped what he was doing and turned to her, “Do you like it?”

Rose and Chrysanthemum?

She remembered the words that Charles had said: “From now on, you are not allowed to touch any flowers.”

Bella felt a chill.

Did the tea count as a flower too?

“What is the matter?” Edwin leaned towards her from the other side of the table and looked at her with concern. His breath could be felt, and the warmth in his eyes could melt her.

“Oh…ugh.” Bella moved her head aside, “I, eh, I am allergic to flowers. Can you get me some water?”

It was better for her not to have it though it was only tea. Elsa could even smell the birth control pill that she had taken. If she had detected the chrysanthemum tea and reported it to Charles, then she was surely dead.

While she was not able to leave that place, she must be cautious.

“OK.” Edwin worried and gave her a cup of water as he said with concern, “So what would you like for food, are you allergic to anything other than flowers?”

Bella was a bit anxious, but told him, “Only flowers.”

In a moment, Edwin brought two dishes over, “A simple meal for today.”

It was spaghetti and some pieces of ham slices. It was perfect.

When they were eating, Edwin left and came back quick with a book in his hand.

“The Little Prince.” He slid the book to her on the table, and his eyes gleamed with amusement, “So maybe this little prince will bring you youth and happiness?”

Bella touch her cheek, “Am I not happy?”

She had been wearing a courtesy smile on her face.

“No, it should be happy from here.” Edwin pointed to his chest where his heart was located, with an insightful smile.
