14 Black envelope

Jiao Yu slowly looked up, bluntly stared back at Cao Shen's eyes and said, "Oldest cousin brother."

Originally, everyone inside the Liu residence (fu) had just eaten their breakfast when two servants came running with ashen faces. At first, the furens and old taitai scolded the servants but when they heard what made these two servants to come hastily, their beautiful and blooming faces turned into those of the servants.

The two branch's master were not present at the moment so only the two young master who was available were the one who went to look at the situation.

Cao Shen and Zhang Yi headed towards the front gate and saw that many people have already came to watch the bustle in the Liu fu. Seeing that everyone was already here and they can't just shoo them away from the streets, Cao Shen decided to let everything be as is, as him and Zhan Yi try look for a way to get things right. Both of them were extremely surprised at first, to see the huge similarities of their uncle to the head in front of them but they have more clearer vision of who their uncle is and knew that it would be impossible for anyone to harm their Liu family.

However, who would've thought that after just a few minutes outside, the people gathered in front of the Liu fu and was shocked to see an extremely beautiful young lady stepped forward.

The two Liu brothers were also mesmerized at her beauty, just as how the people gathered spare no more a glance towards the head but only looked at the young lady that was both held by Jing Chu and Bai Chen. They were all dumbstruck with what they had just seen and many of the people present started to believe that they have seen a goddess

Cao Shen calmly looked at her but he is after all a man and as a man, he could not help but also feel admiration towards the lady but seeing his youngest cousin sister's maids beside this lady, he felt astonishment and realized something.

'Is this why she had to wear a veil for so many years?'

Getting a grip of himself, Cao Shen looked at the frozen Zhang Yi, who had been staring at the young lady and said, "I'll leave this matter to you." Zhang Yi who had been frozen, awoke from his stunned state and saw Cao Shen walking towards the lady.

Cao Shen slowly approached the three ladies and heard Jing Chu begging her young miss. Without waiting for his youngest cousin sister to speak, he quickly stood in front of them and inquisitively said, "Youngest cousin sister?"

Jiao Yu appeared calm and relax but deep inside, she sneered at herself and scolded for actually doing things even difficult for her.

"Oldest cousin brother." Jiao Yu stared back at him, startling him with those cold eyes but the coldness in her eyes did not stay for long, as if seeing an illusion and it was replaced with anxiety and fright.

Jiao Yu tried her hardest to look pitiful and frightened as she said, "That person, it's not father right?"

His youngest cousin sister was indeed beautiful, even more than both his sisters or the women he'd met before. Her voice was melodious and seductive even without trying.

With those thoughts in his head, he immediately looked away from Jiao Yu's direction and said, "Youngest cousin sister need not to worry, the person is totally not involved with our Liu family."

"Youngest cousin sister should go back to her own courtyard and rest, one's body is still weak and must not go out in this type of weather."

This time, it was a false alarm; the head and the similarities of the the two of them. Liu Sheng Xiao had not yet come back and Tie Yi had not sent any type of note to Jiao Yu. So, she could only hope that wherever they are, they'll be safe and had no harm done to them. She was disturbed by the uneasiness in her heart but had no idea what to do and where to start, waiting is the only thing she could do for now.

Later that day, two news broke out in the capital of Jing. First, was the person's head that was mysteriously found outside of the Liu fu's gate, which caused great fear to the hearts of the people, saying that the Liu family had been strangely struck with misfortune as a new season have come. Second, was the most shocking news that everyone have heard, the young miss from the First branch of the Liu family had come out that day without a veil, and instead of seeing a disfigured and unsightly face, people claimed that they saw the goddess of death, descended to take the soul of the person who died.

Many did not believe it at first but as soon as they heard that people were gathering and lining up o send cards to the Liu family's First branch's young miss, eventually, everyone have concluded that the what was heard was true.

It had became a matter of problem to Jiao Yu as she could not go out with everyone's attention to her and hoped that some miracle would happen.

As per her wishes, soon the people grew tired to pay attention to her as there was more important events to come, yet a few people did not stop paying attention to her. For instance, the Liu family's second and third branch's two brothers and sisters.

The people inside the second and third branch was similarly surprised and happy to know the truth behind her veil but many felt disappointed and extreme envy such as the furens and two other young misses of the Liu family.

And since then, Jiao Yu's head had several rounds of headaches as cards and invitations piled up on her favorite table. Of course, she'd ignored it and didn't accept any of those and just stayed in her courtyard, waiting for the fire to die out.

"Young lady, why is the cards still piling up? Are they planning to drown the whole Liu residence with invitations?" Jing absurdly stared at the cards and invitation on the table.

Bai Chen who somehow recovered from what happened last time said, "One can't blame them fro doing so. After seeing Young lady's face, one would doubt that anyone would be stupid enough to ignore."

Rubbing her temples, Jiao Yu lazily sat down on the couch, "It's good enough that it was the cards that are piling up and not bodies."

It was of no wonder why Jiao Yu quoted that, since after what was found outside the Liu fu, everyone was scared but it was only momentarily as people gathered around the front gate again. Wanting to see the face of the Liu family's first branch. It was still a mystery why a person's head was found there and some, wondered if this was not the first and the last victim.

Later that day, a few more head was found at some residences in the capital of Jing. The officials grew tensed and the imperial was impatient to get answers. Yet, everyone soon concluded that the one who's doing this was a rogue targeting the court official's home and the palace put a huge bounty on whoever captures the rogue.

It was still good for Jiao Yu to act like a weakly miss in front of everyone else. However, Jing Chu and Bai Chen had been together with their miss for three years and they've mostly seen the real Jiao Yu who appeared weak. Though, it was nothing new to the both of them seeing Jiao Yu like this, they still feel the coldness and fear sipping inside their soul.

"Young lady is right, it is indeed great." Jing Chu and Bai Chen nodded.

Jiao looked blandly at them and somehow noticed a black scented envelopes on the table, picking it all up before tearing one of them open.

The words written in the letter was not enough to point something towards the location of Liu Sheng Xiao, instead it was something more hair-raising.

'Why does one staying in the capital, make you forget where you really came from?'

Jiao Yu inhaled a lump of air, tearing one more and silently read.

She frantically teared the last one, and a lock of hair fell on top of the table as the letter was ripped open, it was hard to distinguish whose hair it is but the words she read, made her body give a viscous aura.
