151 chapter 3
I climbed into what would be my bed for the foreseeable future. A top of the line gaming capsule. The best money could buy. Alex had explained over dinner that the game was already installed, and that All I had to do was start playing. The game would be linked to my person, so even if my capsule was destroyed, or I played somewhere else I could still access my account.
The experience was.. different. I did not have the normal restlessness before I fell asleep, rather I was immediately lulled into sleep by the pod.
When I opened my eyes I knew I was asleep, but at the same time I felt wide awake. What waited for me was not a typical character creation screen. Instead there was a bar that was slowly moving, with a percentage bar in it. It was currently at 12%. Above the bar were the letters, analyzing body and brain waves.
The bar slowly disappeared from view, the progress was not complete, and was obviously still running in the background. The next screen that appeared was far more typical. It was a race selection screen. There were many options, and I slowly began to scroll through all of them.
Human:
The most populus race, they have short life spans (Average of 80 years) but are quick to learn and are highly adaptable. They are the most varied of the races. +2 additonal stat points per level , and a bonus skill of your choice upon character creation.
Elf: A rare, magic oriented race. They have long life spans (Average 500 years). They have a high affinity with nature element magic (and its sub categories) and recieve an additional +1 to intellect and wisdom per level
Beastkin: A demi-human race that has many different sub races. These races are extremely varied, and all have different perks and weaknesses.
\u003cWolf\u003e A strong affinity with nature. Comes with [scent] ability and gain an additional +1 wisdom +1 dex per level
\u003cTiger\u003e A strong and powerful race, they gain an additonal +1 strength and +1 dexterity, as well as [Rake] skill
\u003cBear\u003e A hardy race, they are more resilient to attacks and come with the passive [Damage reduction] and an additional +2 Constitution per level
\u003cCat\u003e a playful race that is highly agile, they are a great choice for thieves or assassins. They come with the passive skill [Stealthy] and recieve an additional +1 dexterity +1 charisma per level.
Half Elf: A mixture of humans and Elves. They live longer than humans, but less than elves. (Average lifespan 150 years). They recive 2 additional stat points per level, and an affinity with one of the sub categories of nature magic. (Wood, Animal, Poison, or Healing)
Orc: A brutal race that focuses only on combat. Their lifespans are unknown, as most die in battle far before they reach old age. (Lifespan: 40+) They recieve the skill [Beserk] and +2 additional strength per level.
There were many more options, but these were the ones that interested me. I eventually decided between two of them. The choices I had were Human, and Half elf. I liked these two choices because they would give me the choice of where to put the stat points, instead of the bonus points being put into specific places.
Both options were attractive. Skills were difficult to obtain, but they were obtainable. Affinities with magic were rumored to be much harder to obtain, and were basically impossible if your race did not give you one. If a person was planning on going the root of a magician it was almost necessary to pick a race with one.
With that thought in mind my choice was simple. I selected Half-Elf with no hesitation. For my affinity I chose poison. I did not want to tame animals, and I had no desire to be a healer. Wood element was tempting, but Poison seemed like the best option.
What you would expect to come next would be the selection of a class. But the Inverted Tower did not have a class system. Instead it had what was called Archetypes. These Archtypes were determined by the mental and physical scans of your body, as well as your race selection.
The archtype determined how your stats would grow, which is why I though being able to chose the 2 stat points was important. You obtained a total of 5 stat points per level. Three of these were from the scans of your brain and body, and the other two from race. This was all determined at character creation, so even if you drastically changed your mind and body the archtype would remain.
Thankfully by the time I had finished selecting a race the scan of my body and mind had been completed. The results were similiar to what I had expected. My physical body was well trained, and 2 of the three stat points were put towards my physical attributes, while a single point went to a mental attribute.
The results could differ depending on the person. A complete nerd would get 3 mental attributes, while a muscle head would likely get 3 physical. I had a decent head on my shoulders so I was not surprised with the results. +1 str +1 dex +1 intelligence.
The result of the scan was not yet complete. Each player would start with a talent and an ability. The ability and talent where dependent on your own abilities, and the race you chose. This is what made the game truly exciting for most players. This game would be an isekai adventure for all of them. The growth of their character would be just like their own, were they to exist in such a world.
A single person could only have a single talent. It was in a way what made your character unique. A person could have the same skills and archtype as you, but your talent could bring about an an entirely different result.
The results I recieved did not shock me either. After all, I knew myself better than anyone else. The strength of my talent though, that was rather shocking.
Talent: [Firearm Expert]
Do an additional 50% damage with firearms. Fire 50% faster, and magical ammunition costs 50% less mana.
Ability: Venom Shot
A bullet infused with poison mana. This bullet does damage equal to your intelligence times your dexterity, with an addition 1/10 of that damage over 10 seconds. This additional damage is poison damage, while the original damage is not elemental damage. Cost 10 mana. 1 second cast time
It also showed me my Elemental affinity.
Affinity: Poison
Poison damage increased by 25% and poison related spells cost 50% less mana.
Before I could finally finish creating my character the most important part needed to be made, which was the name. I already had one picked out. It was a popular type of book/movie, and something important to me.
Finally I had finished creating my character

I nodded as I looked at my character. 5 points in each was the standard starting amount. The game tried to be fair, and everyone had the same starting line. I selected create with no objections.
